A new initiative launched this afternoon at the Portage Friendship Centre.

A central regional team dealing with sexual exploitation held its first meeting, working under Phase 2 of the Manitoba Sexual Exploitation Strategy.

Friendship Centre Executive Director Stuart Alcorn says with a couple of schools involved, as well as the centre's youth workers, he's encouraged by the support for the team.

Alcorn adds the goal is to eradicate sexual exploitaion, which he admits is ambitious, but thinks it's a good goal to strive for.

He points out while he doesn't have numbers, there is sexual exploitation in the Portage area, adding if it exists, it's a serious problem.

Here's the Sexual Exploitation Strategy.
