The Portage 2010 Manitoba Winter Games Committee is shifting focus, from bringing the event here, to making it happen.

Last Friday saw the announcement Portage's bid was accepted.

Committee Co-chair Ferdi Nelissen believes this is a great opportunity for the whole community to showcase itself. He says the city's proven it can host major events like the Canada Senior Games, and they want to take that to another level in 2010.

Nelissen notes the committee's going to devote a lot of attention to setting up accommodations and transportation for the Games. He adds organizing the sporting events is being done by local organizations who do that regularly.

Nelissen stresses the games bid didn't include a provision about the proposed multi-plex. While he agrees it would add to the Games, he doesn't believe the process should be rushed.
