Tonight and tomorrow night see registration for the upcoming Portage Minor Hockey Association season.

It's from 6:30 until 9 o'clock both nights, at Centennial Arena. Minor Hockey President Ferdi Nelissen notes they try to keep the program economical, especially for first-time players in the Squirt program. It's $75.00 for the first year and $125.00 for the second year. He points out there was concern about the Squirt program a few years ago because registration was down, but they've increased from about 20, to 50 players.
Nelissen encourages female players to participate, adding registration fees for them are lower as well because they're trying to grow that sector. He says all-girl teams start at the atom level, and more teams are expected this year. Two atom teams, two pee wee teams, and two bantam teams are possible.
Nelissen adds there's an alternate registration night September 19th, but it carries an extra $25.00 fee to sign up. Make sure you bring a copy of your child's birth certificate if this is their first registration.
