The provincial government is taking steps to ensure an Avian Flu pandemic doesn't occur in Manitoba.

Agriculture Minister Rosann Wowchuk says although the risk is low, they're trying to be pro-active by making sure producers know how they can protect against a possible pandemic.

Meanwhile, the province has completed an assessment of how the swine and poultry industries would be affected in the event of a pandemic.

Wowchuk says it's the first of its kind in Canada, and they'll be sharing their findings with other provinces.
