The president of the Herman Prior Centre feels the Community Foundation of Portage and District helped to jump-start an upgrade project of their air conditioning system.

The foundation presented a cheque for five thousand dollars to Arnie McNee yesterday -- it'll go towards the 25 thousand dollar tab.

He notes the summer heat limited the centre's renting capabilities, at times having to rebate rent money.

The foundation's Grants Committee chair adds the Herman Prior Centre was considered an emergency.  Joyce Dalmyn says the centre needed the grant now, as the next dispersal is scheduled after summer.

A contract has been issued for the work and completion is expected next month.
