A stretch of a major Manitoba highway is now open 55 kilometers south of Portage. Barricades were removed just before 1 p.m. today.

Because of water on the road from the overflowing Boyne River, a small portion of highway 2 near Rathwell was closed a week ago. The closure made for a major detour for people that traveled East/West between the communities in the region. The piece of highway that was closed did suffer some damage and Manitoba highways has erected signs for motorists to reduce speed through the area.

Some of the gravel roads and mile roads in the area are still covered with water and have not reopened just yet. The rain that has been moving through the region today is not expected to affect things in a big way.
