Homestead Co-op will be putting limits on the number of goods customers can purchase in an effort to prevent mass shortages.

The grocer has already experienced some item shortages that stretch beyond the typical binge purchases.

"We have had some shortages, especially in disinfectant and toiletry items. We are running a little low on flour and sugar," says Kevin Dales, Homestead Co-op general manager. "We're being allocated right now from our warehouse and we have limited quantities on certain items just to make sure there is enough product available for everyone and trying to alleviate any of the binge-buying that has been happening over the last number of days."

Dales adds that they don't anticipate seeing many shortages, but that changes daily as more information surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic is learned.

Homestead Co-op operates food stores in Portage la Prairie, Carman, Treherne and La Salle.
