The void of a registered immobilizer installer may soon be filled in Portage.

Kris Wikdahl has received certification as an installer and is looking to start his own automotive business on the property owned by J.W. Hinch Plumbing and Heating.

He says opportunity was what pushed him towards his venture, with the closest installation outlets in Brandon and Winnipeg.  Wikdahl and his wife will be operating the business at first, but will likely hire more staff within the first year if the business takes off.

City councillor Jeff Bereza is supportive of the plan, as it'll lead to economic growth and a reduction in auto theft.

Wikdahl has a proposed a re-zoning of the property into a commercial district -- it passed first reading during last night's city council meet.
