A 21-year-old Winnipeg man needed to be rescued after he became stranded in his vehicle and could not escape after it began filling with water.

Manitoba RCMP say the man ignored barricades on Provincial Road 200 last Thursday and got caught north of St. Adolphe in the RM of Ritchot. The man told officers he could not get out of the vehicle through the doors or windows, but thankfully, emergency personnel were able to get to the man quickly.

Officers are using this opportunity to remind everyone to pay attention to the barricades and respect them.

"We all know that there is overland flooding throughout areas of our province and that this flooding has resulted in a number of road closures," said Corporal Julie Courchaine of the Manitoba RCMP. "The barricades are in place to keep everyone safe. No one should ever try to bypass them under any circumstance."

The Winnipeg man was issued a fine of $237 under the Highway Traffic Act for disobeying the barricades.
