It's good news for Portage la Prairie motorists as Manitoba Public Insurance announced this morning that all COVID rebate cheques are now in the mail.

MPI is sending out approximately 675,000 cheques totalling $69 million,as part of it's second round of rebates since the onset of the pandemic. This comes as the provincial insurer saw a 20 per cent decrease in collision claims from mid-March to the end of October compared to the previous year, and MPI’s forecast of collision frequency remains favourable into the spring.

Rebates are calculated on what policyholders paid during this period and is estimated to be about six per cent of their annual basic Autopac premium.

So far, 50,641 cheques have cleared MPI’s account, worth a total of $3.7 million. For rebates less than $10, MPI will credit the money to your account.

Last May, MPI issued its first COVID rebate totalling $110 million.
