The Portage la Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce has a new president.

Shawn Roulette also works as TD Bank Branch Manager and shares what it feels like and why he wanted to be involved with the chamber.

"I'm, first, honoured and excited to be president," says Roulette. "I was vice president last year and it was kind of a different year. However, I'll try to do my best this year to be there to support our businesses as things open up for them. And I want to be an advocate for any of our problems to local governments and work with them to help fix things for their needs."

Roulette says he first got involved as a chamber board member three years ago, noting he liked the efforts they're involved with and how it's all about doing good for the community.

d small business for 12 years in a job," says Roulette. "So, now that I'm just managing a branch, I'm a little removed, but I still know the concerns of a lot of the business people and they're still comfortable to talk to me."

Roulette explains he grew up on a farm in Langruth, noting he's local to the area and moved back into more of a working capacity in town.

"I have a strong background in agriculture and have been a big advocate for them, as well," explains Roulette. "We're living in an agriculture town. You'd probably agree that living in an agriculture town, the ebb and flow of agriculture usually determines a lot of the economy."

He says he also did farm-related work as senior account manager for FCC in Winkler.

"I don't have a personal agenda and I'm not going to just be pushing that," adds Roulette. "I'm going to push the agenda of the local business community. It should be an exciting year."
