The Rural Municipality of Norfolk Treherne is looking to implement an airport reserve fund, which will allow them to focus on improvements to the Norfolk Treherne Airport.

Reeve Will Eert says the fund will allow them to hold onto some dedicated funds for maintenance and upgrades. He says they're currently in between their second and third reading, and following the third reading, the fund should be put in place.

"The airport is a municipal asset and what the airport reserve will do is it will give the municipality the ability to assure the long-term viability of the airport," notes Eert. "Prior to the reserve money from the airport, any surpluses was just put into the general fund and spent."

He adds it will be nice to always have the money available in the event of emergency expenditures. He notes, while the airport isn't working with massive sums of money, every little bit helps out.

"Last year in round numbers between fees and a provincial grant. The airport brought in $13,100," says Eert. "The expenses, in round numbers, for insurance, repairs, and supplies was about $7,500."

This means about $5,300 will be put into the surplus for this year. Eert explains he's glad for this, as he expects upgrades will need to happen sooner rather than later.
