The Director of the Portage Ukrainian Nursery School is so grateful to the family who helped start a fund at the Community Foundation of Portage and District in their name.

Lori Carpenter says Tyler Côté, Michelle Nostedt, and their kids, Adéle and Bernard, set up a designated fund by donating $5,000 -- something now anyone can contribute to.

"The nursery school has been around for over 40 years and has had thousands of children and their families participate in it," says Carpenter. "We wanted to ensure that that legacy carried on for a very long time. Tyler, Michelle, and their family have taken a step to ensure that, so we're over the moon happy and grateful for this support that they've given us."

Bernard and Adéle attended the nursery school and Carpenter says the entire family would help out, with Tyler serving as chair of the parental board for a while.

"Both he and his wife did Volunteer Days with their children at nursery school. Tyler also came in -- he put together furniture, he built a shelving unit, he rebuilt shelving that was broken. He was just an absolute godsend for us. He was a great support and always up for whatever challenge we presented him with. He rose to the occasion and supported us."

Carpenter says the community has always been supportive of the nursery school, and she is so thankful for the parents who entrust them with their children. She adds that many of the families involved with the school have been so great about stepping up, and she wants them to know they are appreciated.

Carpenter believes this fund will ensure the future of the school, and she hopes others will consider contributing.
