A new path in the main hallway of Oakville School has left some students literally jumping for joy.

The school returned from spring break this week with a new sensory path designed to help students work off excess energy. Resource teacher Paula Mellen says it can also help them develop motor skills. She mentions they'd been thinking of adding a sensory path for quite a while.

"The kids are really enjoying it," explains Mellen. "They're going to get a couple of lessons as to how to use the path and how they could maybe make it their own so that it can reach the kindergarten through to the Grade 8."

She says the path has different activities which allow the students to jump, balance, twirl, or dance their way through the halls on their way to class. The resource teacher adds it's been such a success, they're going to get a second one over summer break.

"I believe there are some other schools in our division that are implementing sensory paths now," mentions Mellen. "We had some temporary ones that were put into place, but now, that they're able to put them on the floor and fix them permanently, it makes it so much easier and they look fantastic."
