Stonewall RCMP are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that took place on Highway 7 on Thursday that killed a man from Fisher River Cree Nation.

Manitoba RCMP were called to the scene just before 7 p.m. after it was reported a white truck was travelling south in the northbound lane on Highway 7 near Highway 323 when the collision happened. In all, there were three northbound vehicles that were involved in the crash.

The 66-year-old male driver from Peguis First Nation was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A 64-year-old man from Fisher River Cree Nation was pronounced deceased at the scene, while three more adults and one child were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Multiple accidents were reported all across Manitoba over the long weekend as blizzard conditions caused icy roads and low visibilty. Many highways were closed for extended periods of time as well.

A fatal accident also occurred Friday on Highway 16 just west of Minnedosa.

The initial RCMP investigation has determined a pickup truck was travelling west by Newdale when it crossed into the eastbound lane and struck an eastbound semi-trailer.

Both vehicles caught fire and were fully engulfed in flames. The two occupants in the pickup truck were pronounced deceased at the scene.
