The Portage Padres are now 1-0 in the Santa Clara Baseball League season.

The Padres kicked off their season at home and took care of business as they defeated the Neepawa Cubs 7-0. Joey Moffatt picked up the win on the mound and Ryan Botterill closed out the final two innings to secure the save. Moffatt says it's great to be back on the field.

"The feeling is unbelievable," says Moffatt. "We've obviously missed it the last couple of summers. So, it feels great."

The pitcher says he wasn't too sure what to expect heading into the contest.

"Obviously, we haven't been on the diamond in a while and we have a lot of new faces. We weren't sure if we were going to have enough guys to play but a lot of guys came out and now we have a pretty good team. So, it's pretty exciting."

The Padres will hit the road on Friday night as they visit Austin to take on the A's at 7:00.
