The Plumas Pirates are hoping to see a big crowd tonight as they are looking to support one of their own.

Plumas Pirate Justin Walker's daughter has unfortunately been diagnosed with cancer, and the team is looking to do whatever they can to help out. Head coach Tom Yandeau outlines how they're doing so tonight.

"People are going to be donating, and we're trying to get some companies to donate. We'll be passing the hat around and have a box set up for donations," Yandeau explains. "The expenses have been getting pretty crazy for them, so all the money collected at the ball game will go to help pay some of those costs."

The head coach says this was supposed to be their first playoff game, however, due to a pair of wins against the Portage Padres this week, it will now be an exhibition contest against the Neepawa Cubs.

Yandeau says they have been so grateful for the amount of support they've received this year, and are thrilled they have the fans to be able to make a fundraiser like this happen.

"We probably have one of the best groups of fans in our league because most of our kids are local, so everybody knows them, which is a big help," Yandeau continues. "We have quite a few local fans who come out for more than just watching ball, it's to get out too. With COVID over the last two years, people come out just to visit. We get quite a few fans from the surrounding areas too because we have some kids from Gladstone and places like that."

The first pitch for this extra special game is set for 7:00 tonight.
