City council could have an influential role in preventing family violence in Portage.

They're being asked of a ten thousand dollar provision by The Portage Family Abuse Prevention Centre, as well as the inclusion of the organization into the city's budget.

The centre's executive director Penny Kelly says family violence affects all social aspects of the city, including the workplace.

The proposed funding would go towards a campaign to raise awareness in children during "Family Violence Prevention Month" in November.  Kelly explains targeting children is the only solution to the problem.

The campaign is the first step of the organization's five-tier plan to end family violence.
