Downtown Portage should be a lot quieter. Traffic is being re-routed onto the Portage By-pass.

The Department of Infrastructure opened the Angle Road detour this afternoon, allowing traffic east and westbound onto the Portage By-pass. It's been shut down since Thanksgiving, when structural problems were found on the east overpass.

Assistant Deputy Minister Lance Vigfusson is pleased the by-pass is back in operation, and thanks Portagers for their patience over the last month.

Final touches were completed on the detour today. Vigfusson notes signs will let traffic know the by-pass is open again.

He adds a lot of work was done on Angle Road, and it's ready to handle the increased traffic. Intersections have been surfaced, while traffic lights and illumination have been installed.
