The annual gala for the Portage District General Hospital Foundation is being held tonight with no COVID-19 restrictions!

Executive director Tara Pettinger says, while they were able to hold a gala last year, those in attendance had to wear a mask if they weren’t at their table. She mentions they aren’t strictly going back to the way things used to be, however, as they have an online auction in addition to their in-person one.

“We've got lots of different components running for the night,” explains Pettinger. “It’s just such a fun night. I know from talking to people, so many people look forward to it, countdown to it, plan their outfit -- all those types of things.’

She adds, this year's gala sold out at record speed. The executive director mentions that it’s great to see the community support the event and help out the foundation.

“Each year we get requests in December and January from the hospital, Regency House and Douglas Campbell Lodge for any needs that they might have,” says Pettinger. “We look at all of those, but we as a foundation have been setting money aside for a lot of years for the new hospital project.”

For those who were unable to purchase a seat for the gala but still want to participate, you can check out the online auction here. The online auction closes at 9:30 p.m. tonight.

The gala will be held at the MNP Exhibition Building, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
