Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz famously said, "There's no place like home." For one family that's called Portage la Prairie home for five generations, that saying couldn't ring any truer.

Alyssa Mason, recently gave birth in March to her daughter Evelynn making her family tree reach five generations of Portage women, including her mother Charlotte Mason, grandmother Judy Gushel and 99-year-old great-grandmother Ann Duncan.

Alyssa explains the importance of having such strong roots and heritage in the community.

"It actually means a lot because we're all from Portage. We've never gone very far, even on my dad's side. We're all born and raised here. We all went to school here, and the little one is going to go to school here too. So, it really means a lot, and it's nice to see that the community is still growing."

Alyssa shares that at one point, she was living in the capital of Manitoba, but it just wasn't home.

"We did not like it. We wanted to come back to the small town, where everybody knows everybody. It's a lot better, you just see everybody smiling, and even if you don't know them, they're just going to stop and say 'Hi.' And that's what we really missed. My parents live just outside of Portage, and it's beautiful here. It's only a 15-minute drive into town, and it's just awesome. We really love it."

Alyssa notes that her family is proud to be from the City Of Possibilities, adding that it's nice to have a photo with all of them together.
