With the snow beginning to melt, the Portage Golf Club is gearing up for a new season.
Manager of the course Deb Pritchard says memberships and registration options will be available this week. She says it is important to sign up early if you're looking for a certain time slot.
"There's a couple of time divisions that sell out quite quickly," says Pritchard. "Both guys and girls who have been playing for years like to keep their time slot, but we still have room for new golfers, especially on the ladies' side. There are a couple of time slots that are usually available, always room for more new faces and more new teams."
Pritchard says while the weather isn't cooperating quite as well as it did last year, they still have their fingers crossed that they can open up in the next few weeks.
"We generally count down to April 15th as our target date," Pritchard explains. "Last year we had a bonus and mother nature got us rolling early. We actually opened the first hole on March 20th last year as a driving range to let people scratch that itch and then the course opened up on April 2nd. We're obviously going to be later than that this year, but if we can get open anytime between mid-April and the end of the month, we'll be off to an average start."
The manager says it is a little too early to tell how the course wintered and what upkeep will have to be done to keep the course up to par but notes she is optimistic.
Pritchard says they are extremely excited to put on in-person events this year.
"A lot of our regular events from pre-COVID times are returning to their normal event. We've got several dates already booked by outside groups as well," Pritchard explains. "It's certainly open to any and all. We'll happily work to create the best event possible."
Pritchard adds all the information on how to register can be found online on their website and Facebook page.
