The Portage Legion Branch #65 will finally return to Stride Place for their Remembrance Day service.

Branch president Bob Oldford caught up with PortageOnline and says this will be the first in person service since 2019. He hopes to see a good crowd at Stride Place, especially after the success of their No Stone Left Alone service at the Hillside Cemetery with the Grade 9 students of Portage Collegiate Institute.

“We're asking all those coming to be seated by 10:30 a.m. so that the parade of military personnel and veterans can happen at about 10:45,” explains Oldford. “Service will start just before 11 with O’Canada and right at 11 a.m. we’ll have the last post.”

He adds, while they were able to livestream the past few Remembrance Day services online, technical difficulties have made it impossible for that to happen this year. He expects to be able to stream future services online, while also continuing in person.

“It would nice to be able to fill the building,” says Oldford. “Then, we’d have to go back to the city and tell them they have to find us a bigger facility.”
