Portage la Prairie RCMP executed a search warrant last Friday in the city, which led to four people getting arrested and or charged following the seizure of drugs and firearms.

Police say that on June 24, due to an ongoing investigation, officers with the Portage la Prairie General Investigative Section (GIS) conducted a search on a residence on Mobile Street in Portage.

As a result of the search, officers seized a number of drugs, including methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, along with firearms, cash and drug-related paraphernalia. 

RCMP say they have charged the following individuals:

Tori Webb, a 28-year-old woman from Portage with:  

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x2
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x2
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x3 and Unlawfully Producing a Substance.

Webb was remanded into custody for a court appearance scheduled for June 27th in Portage la Prairie. 

Preston Whitford, a 27-year-old man from the RM of Alonsa, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x2
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x2
  • Possession of a Firearm without a License x3 and Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited. 

Whitford was remanded into custody for a court appearance scheduled for June 27th in Portage.

According to the police report, officers returned to the scene in the evening to locate the property owner. They observed an unregistered vehicle parked outside the residence. A 31-year-old unnamed woman, was in the driver’s seat and was legally prohibited from driving.

Officers then reportedly searched the vehicle and located a loaded sawed-off firearm underneath the driver’s seat. 

Following the search of vehicle, the woman was arrested and remanded into custody for a court appearance scheduled for July 27th in Portage on charges of: 

  • Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition and Failing to Comply with an Undertaking.

Finally, police note, an unnamed 55-year-old man from Portage, who is the property owner of the residence on Mobile Street, was arrested on the scene concerning the search warrant. The man was released for court which is scheduled for August 9th in Portage.
