The Portage la Prairie RCMP have laid weapon charges after a fight broke out near the 300 block of Saskatchewan Avenue East.

Police received a report of two men fighting at around 3:00 on September 3rd. After officers arrived, they interviewed the only suspect remaining on scene. Police say they noticed something inside the man's pocket, which turned out to be a can of bear spray.

While interviewing the first suspect, the second man returned, who was no stranger to the police because he had an outstanding warrant of arrest. He was placed under arrest for that warrant and was released later that day to appear in court at a later date.

The 29-year-old from Portage was placed under arrest and faces charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon. The suspect was released to appear in court at a later date with conditions.
