With the winter and spring we've had here in Manitoba, it's no surprise that we have seen our roads start to crumble.

Given the state of our roads, the government has handed out some funding for maintenance work.

Reeve of the RM of Portage la Prairie Kam Blight says that the RM is very appreciative of the province, Premier Stefanson and Minster Eileen Clarke for finding these dollars that will be used toward repair work for the municipality.

"That's a welcome announcement given the challenge that we've experienced this spring, and it was definitely a very challenging winter as well for snow removal and the constant beating that our roads took. This is money that will be put into good use in a very timely fashion."

Blight notes that that official dollar figure has not been released, but the RM anticipates $70-80,000 being dished out.

He says that the funds will go toward fixing potholes, residential streets, and other streets damaged throughout the spring.

Blight concludes that the details of this funding are still yet to be seen and further comment will be given as the details come in.
