The Kids Can Cope purple hair reveal took place this afternoon at the PCU Centre in Portage la Prairie. The program saw 13 participants vow to dye their hair purple if they could reach $500 dollars each in fundraising. Executive director Sharilyn Knox says the purple hair program raised $17,606.

"I've calculated that it costs us about $200 to send a kid to a weekend camp. If we calculate that as how many kids we can send over the next few years it's fantastic. Their goal was to raise $500 each. So, $6,500 was their goal they set. We far exceeded that."

Portage and District Recycling CEO James Bolton and his son Clark both took part in the purple doo campaign, and he says he informed his family about it when Clark immediately wanted to join in. Clark says he did it to see how much it would help the community and cancer care, adding he's getting a lot of looks and it's all a lot of fun.
