Councillor for the RM of Portage la Prairie Ward 5 is running for re-election. Arnold Verwey gave the word for his bid for his run for council once again after 16 years in the political sphere.

He says he's trying to do everything that he can for the RM with his main focus on roads, drainage, growth for the municipality infrastructure and for the municipality. Verwey notes what else he's hoping to continue.

"To work in partnership with, not only just council and administration but the municipalities that are surrounding," says Verwey. "I think if everybody gets involved, it makes for a better work relationship. I hope to keep working on different irons, so to speak, that I got in the fire right now and there's more to be added every day we answer our phones."

He explains there's no particular issue that he focuses on in more detail, noting it's just general day-to-day important needs.

"There's always some drainage issues, especially with a wet year like this, or whatever there it's come up that there are more drainage problems than others, but we'll work on them slowly but surely and hopefully the ratepayers have patience that we can get at them when we can."

Verwey shares words that he'd like people to consider when voting time arrives.

"I just hope that they think that I've done a good job in the past and hopefully, if we haven't, that we can mend those fences and get on with working together to solve the problems," adds Verwey.

Municipal election day is October 26.
