A new highway tractor was purchased by the RM of Portage la Prairie, and it’s in response to some issues raised over the controversial DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) regulations that affect post-2008 machines.

Reeve Kam Blight outlines the reasoning behind the acquisition of an older model.

“In light of some of the challenges the municipality’s having with the newer equipment in regards to DEF-related issues with any equipment that’s 2008 and newer, primarily, with our semi highway tractors, we are seeing a lot of downtime with this newer equipment,” says Blight. “We've kind of turned our focus to purchase some used highway tractors. We came across one which is a 2007 and will fit our needs and it'll be put to work right away.”

He notes it will be put on their low bed for transporting equipment during the times when it’s not filling in for a truck that's already down due to the issues related to DEF.

Blight adds they’re extremely pleased with the purchase.
