The RM of Portage la Prairie Council's very close to having agreements with Roquette completed, for the pea processing plant to be constructed southwest of the city.

This morning, Council approved the development ageement, land transfer agreement, and site works agreement.

However, Reeve Kam Blight stresses there's still some work to be done before they come into force.

"We've authorized the reeve and CAO to sign the documents, when the final Ts are crossed, and Is are dotted," he says, "Which we anticipate happening here in the next few days. We didn't want to have to wait until our next meeting to authorize that, because we feel that we'll have this all taken care of this week, and we can see some action out there. It is definitely exciting times."

Blight explains what they're concerned about.

"There's actually one clause that we're concerned about," he says, "Not specifically with Roquette, (but) with some agreements with the province. And I actually received messages from the province as we (the RM) were meeting that we're working with the province on that, and we're going to get that cleaned up. I don't foresee it being a stumbling block -- we just want to make sure that everything's covered on our part."
