Rose Dzikowski (nee Grocholski)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Baba, Great Grandmother, Aunty, great Aunty, cousin, and loyal friend Rose Dzikowski at the age of 92 at the Lions Prairie Manor.

Rose is predeceased by her husband Michael; son John; daughter Doris and siblings Julie, Metro and Steve. Rose was a “Strong Ukrainian Woman” until the day she passed. Her heart was strong like the love for her friends and family.

Rose was born in Sclater Mb September 5th, 1930, to proud parents Nick and Mary Grocholski. Rose went to school in Sclater Mb with her 3 siblings Steve, Metro and Julie. She met the love of her life near Cowan Mb, Michael Dzikowski and got Married in 1951 in Sclater Mb where they resided and had 2 children Linda Marie (Jim Kirton) and Doris Hazel (Joe Dinwoodie). In 1955 they moved to Toronto On, where Rose worked at Campbell Soup. A few years later they moved to Portage la Prairie Mb. where she accepted a supervisor job at Campbell Soup.

In 1966 a wonderful surprise showed up named John Randell Dzikowski and in 1967 they built a house on Maplewood Crescent where she resided until the 2000’s. In the 1970’s the grand children started to arrive, Bobbi-Lynn Kirton, Clayton Kirton (Dara), Tiffany Dinwoodie, Brittany (Jay Sponarski), Amy Taylor, Taylor Taylor, and great grand children Colby Kirton, Cienna-Lynn Kirton, Tiernee Dinwoodie, Aubrey Sponarski and Kamryn Sponarski and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose had a lot of special people in her life and many long-lasting friendships. Cousin Rosie Fedorchuk, sister –in- law Helen Dzikowski (Mississauga Ontario), Johnny and Peggy Curuk (Brandon) and special nephew Ed (Diane) Dzikowski & Audrey and Larry Blaylock (Portage)

Rose would always make sure they made the time to travel back to Cowan to “The Cabin in the Pines” and spend time with family and friends from Swan River, Cowan, Dauphin, and Flin Flon whenever they could. Rose would always be in the cabin preparing meals for us and making sure her drink was full, which was usually the grand children’s job. I think everyone would agree she made the best perogies and cabbage rolls this side of Sclater.

Rose was an avid bowler with plenty of hardware to prove it and loved to watch all her children and grandchildren play sports. She was also heavily involved in the Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League. Rose and Mike always had the nicest yard on the block and were self sufficient with a huge garden and plenty of food to go around. Christmas and Ukrainian Christmas were always very traditional with the 12 meatless dishes that Rose would barely take time to sit and enjoy.  If everyone was full and had a drink in their hand, she was glowing. Rose, along with family and friends always had time for hours of Canasta and their home would always be the place to go to and stay. In their later years, their home was host to the grand children when school was out for the summer and their lawn into a baseball diamond and football field for the neighbourhood kids to enjoy. Mike and “Rosie” would make sure the grand children would make their games and practices no matter what time or where they were. Rose retired from Campbell Soup when it closed in 1993 with 33 years of commitment.

We would like the thanks all Staff at the Lions Prairie Manor for helping with Rose for many, many years.
