Those looking to showcase their shinny skills will be able to take to the ice next month.

The Rotary Pond Hockey Championships is returning on February 10th-12th. Travis Foster, chair of the tournament, says after a two-year hiatus, they’re ecstatic to get back outside. He notes the games played will take place on Crescent Lake.

“Right now, there is a group called ‘Skating on the Crescent’ who is making ice,” explains Foster. “Shout-out to them for doing all the work for us and getting the ice to be skateable.”

This tournament usually helps inject $10,000 into the Rotary Club’s annual funding, so Foster’s excited to see it return. The tournament was first held 18 years ago.

“In 2020, we made it just past the deadline,” says Foster. “We played our tournament, and then right after that is when the world shut down. Ever since then, we've just been unable to make it feasible for us to get out there and social distance at the same time. But, here we are in 2023, and I think we will have a fantastic tournament.”

Teams looking to sign up for the tournament should either reach out on their Facebook page or email travis.foster@freedom55financial.com. Foster explains that they’ll only be accepting 20 teams, due to only having two playing surfaces for the weekend. It costs $250 to register.
