Those in MacGregor will have to worry about things that go “bump” in the night once again, as the Heartland Recreation Commission is bringing back their haunted house.

Recreation Director and Facility Manager Karla Gurke says the house where it was held last year is currently being sold, which means they were in need of a new venue. That led the group behind the haunted house to come up with not only a new location but a new theme as well.

“Everybody thinks our arena is haunted anyways,” explains Gurke. So, why not make our curling side up and down a curling crypt of creepiness?”

She adds she knew the curling crypt was the perfect place for their new haunted house, and that thought was strengthened when Breanna Cairns, her partner for this event, started planning the layout.

Gurke notes they’ll start the days relatively tame for families and children, but, when the sun goes down, the gloves come off.

“I'm not much for scaring, but Breanna just loves that creepy stuff,” says Gurke. “It was completely her idea and we just ran with it and it was a complete success. With COVID, of course, we could only have certain many people through the House, which made it more creepy.”

The haunted house will open its doors on October 28th, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday the 29th from 1:30 to 3:30. For those looking to test their courage, the house will be extra scary on Saturday night, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

To enter, they ask you to provide a donation for their local community revitalization corporation.
