Much of southern Manitoba has been experiencing severe thunderstorms this morning.

We have received reports of hail in various communities from Brandon to Elm Creek.

For 10 to 15 minutes this morning, there was an eerie orange glow in the east. (Photo:Rae Hathaway)Brad Vrolijk is with Environment Canada and tells us where the storms came from.

"Overnight tonight, we had a line of severe thunderstorms develop over southeastern Saskatchewan that through the early morning hours, has moved across into southwestern Manitoba," says Vrolijk. "The line right now is positioned east of Brandon and is pushing towards the Red River Valley."

He says people should be on the lookout if they are out and about today.

"The main hazards we're expecting from these thunderstorms this morning, the first is definitely large hail," says Vrolijk. "There is the potential for anywhere from quarter to Toonie-sized hail."

Once these storms pass, he says another system will be making its way into the region, and we could see much of the same that we saw today -- but worse.

"Those will be another pretty significant severe weather risk with those for large hail and strong winds," says Vrolijk. "There's the potential for even heavier rain than we've seen this morning."
