Those with the Family Resource Centre (FRC) were smiling ear-to-ear after receiving the cheque from Tim Hortons' Smile Cookie Week.

With every purchase of a Smile Cookie between May 1-7, a dollar was added to the donation being given to the FRC. The centre was presented with a cheque on May 26th for $13,563.

Melissa Morrison, executive director for the Family Resource Centre, says the level of support that Portage gave this drive was unbelievable.

"It's super amazing to know that the community knows who we are," explains Morrison. "We were really lucky that we were able to make so many things happen in terms of getting kids to help decorate cookies, getting people outside with signs to wave at cars, and then getting a bunch of cookies delivered to different daycares and schools around town."

Last year's Smile Cookie Week raised $8,369 meaning this year saw 5,194 more cookies purchased than last year. The money from Smile Cookie Week will be put toward their after-school program at the resource centre.

Tim Hortons general manager Stephanie Arnott says supporting local groups like this is one of her favourite parts of the job.

"We do a lot of fundraisers. We do Orange Shirt Day, Camp Day, we do other fun things," says Arnott. "This one stays local and it's really important to us to stay connected to the community because we all live in the community. We all use these resources."
