Southern Health-Santé Sud held its 10th Annual Public Meeting virtually last Wednesday night, updating the public on where the organization has been, is right now, and where they are going.

Adam Monteith, the Chairperson for the Board of Directors of the Health Authority, highlighted five things that Southern Health wanted to highlight during the meeting.

  • What matters to people in health care.
  • Their strategic plan looking out to 2028.
  • Their capital builds that they're looking forward to this year.
  • Their clinical and preventive services plan.
  • Focusing on bringing health care closer to home for everyone across southern Manitoba.

Monteith says as the board looks back at the past year, they acknowledge that it has been a struggle.

"It's been kind of a generational challenge that you see, hopefully, just once in a generation with COVID-19 and the pandemic, certainly challenged staff, patients and communities, but part of those challenges is living up to that moment, meeting the challenge, taking what you can and learning from it."

Monteith told PortageOnline that the vision for the board is to have healthier people and communities thriving together.

"Making sure that there's a big table for everybody to come around and speak to what matters to them most so that they succeed, our communities succeed and working together, everybody thrives."

Monteith notes that Southern Health hopes to continue doing their public meetings virtually as it allows for broader participation.
