Eli Carels scored the tying goal on the power play with 1:39 left in regulation and Connor Hamonic potted the winner shorthanded just 20 seconds into overtime as the Notre Dame Hawks defeated the Altona Maroons 7-6 Wednesday night in the lone SEMHL game. Jeff Michiels added a pair of goals for the hometown Hawks while the rest went to Marc Vigier, Geoff Maloney and Sean Christensen. Adam Henry had two goals and three assists for the Maroons. Tristen Dueck, Tyler Penner, Colton Bates and Justin Augert also scored for Altona.


The Miller Aces, PCI Trojans and Morris Mavericks were winners in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League. JJ Oke and Logan Budz scored two goals each as Portage Collegiate beat Pembina 7-3. Carson Inman, Maddox Shindle and Alex Van Deynze also scord for the defending champion Trojans. Easton Lounsbury, Anthony Mckay and Brad Sloane did the goal scoring for the Tigers. Ziko Pankrantz scored twice and Xander Dyck had a goal and two assists as the Aces downed Northlands Parkway 7-1. Reece Fehr, Griffin Hildebrand, Oakley Peters and Tyson Tarnick also scored for Miller. Carter Unger had the lone goal for the Nighthawks. NPC goaltender Rylan Lepp made 61 saves. The Mavericks scored four unanswered second period goals en route to a 6-2 victory over Carman. Logan Dearborn, Owen Fehr, Seth Laroche, Owen Maynard, Scott Saurette and Awstin Suwala scored for Morris. Alex Lemky and Ryan Orchard replied for the Cougars.


The Portage Terriers are in second place in the MJHL standings once again but couldn't come out victorious. The team fell 6-5 in a shootout on home ice against the Dauphin Kings. Full story here


The Pembina Valley Hawks scored three times in the second period and added three more in the third in a 6-1 victory over the Winnipeg Thrashers in Morden. Carter Campbell had a pair of goals for the Hawks while the rest went to Ty Love, Cedrik Robidoux, Liam Goertzen and Adrien McIntosh. Raiden LeGall made 32 saves. Pembina Valley went four-for-eight on the power play. 


Jake Chiasson scored the go-ahead goal with 2:09 left as the Brandon Wheat Kings edged the Raiders 4-3 in Prince Albert. Brett Hyland, Calder Anderson and Nolan Ritchie also scored for the Wheat Kings who received a 25-save performance from Carson Bjarnason.
 

Marie-Philip Poulin is the first female hockey player to win the Northern Star Award as Canada's athlete of the year. She captained the Canadian women's team to Olympic and world championship gold this year.


Manitoba champions Randy Neufeld, Dean Moxham, Peter Nicholls and Dale Michie finished with a 6-0 record in Pool B and will begin play in the championship pool today at the 2022 Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Terry Ursel, Wanda Rainka, Brenda Walker and Tracy Igonia were 1-5 and will compete in the seeding pool.
