The 43rd edition of the Manitoba Marathon was cancelled at 8:10 a.m. Sunday. Wet-bulb readings which measure a runners exposure level to heat stress was 31.7 C when the decision to shutdown the race was made. Marathon guidelines say anything over 30 C is unsafe for even the fittest runner.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have come to terms with Global defensive lineman Thiadric Hansen on a two-year contract. The Flensburg, Germany native will join the football team for his third season in the CFL. He suited up for every regular season game in 2019 and 2021 and was a key contributor on defence and special teams in the back-to-back Grey Cup championships. Hansen was selected second overall in the CFL’s 2019 European Draft. The Bombers won their game in Ottawa Friday 19-12 and are now 2-0 to start the season. Their next match is a Friday home game against Hamilton, a rematch of last years Grey Cup.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs 10-4 at Shaw Park. The Fish plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and put the game away with three more runs in the eight. Kevin Lachance had three hits for the Goldeyes while Deon Stafford Jr. stroked a two-run homer.


The entry deadline for Golf Manitoba’s Provincial U15 Bantam, the Women’s City & District and the All-Abilities Championships is today. All three championships will be held June 25th & 26th at the La Broquerie golf course.

The New York Yankees have won the first two games in a series against the Toronto Blue Jays. The two teams match up this afternoon once again in Toronto.

In the NHL, Colorado went up 2 games to none on Tampa Bay with a 7-0 win over the defending champions last night. The Stanley Cup now shifts to Florida for the next two games.
