Wrestler Annaka Chartrand returned to her home of St. Laurent with a silver medal.

She competed at the Western Canada Summer Games last week in Swift Current and performed very well. She explains what it felt like to be awarded a medal.

"I felt really happy and proud of myself," says Chartrand. "Even though it wasn't a gold medal, I was still very proud. Going up against these other girls, they bring some tough competition but I felt that I did pretty well."

This is the first time Chartrand has competed outside of Manitoba, so finishing second in her age group is quite impressive. She describes what it was like competing on such a big stage.

"It was a really good experience," says Chartrand. It was cool meeting all the new people and the other athletes. We ended up staying in classrooms with other athletes too, it was pretty cool to talk to all of them."

Chartrand adds she hopes to take the experience she's gained from this event and use it to improve even more. Her goal now is to qualify for the Canada Games in 2021.
