Superheroes will be descending on Southport's bowling lanes this weekend. That's because Big Brothers Big Sisters of Portage la Prairie is hosting their annual Bowl for Kids event over the weekend. Executive Director Dawn Froese says they have a good number of teams involved in this year's event, and the facility is decorated suitably as local heroes take to the lanes to support the organization.

"We're really excited about it. Our theme this year is superheroes. We've got superhero logos, we've got posters with 'POW!' and BAM!' and all kinds of interesting things. Once you're here, you'll even be able to find out what your superhero name is."

It's a major fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and this year's goal is set at $16,000. Froese is confident they'll make that goal, adding all of the money raised goes a long way to supporting their work in the community.

"The money we get from Bowl for Kids goes toward helping find mentors and mentor children in our community, as well as Oakville and MacGregor. It's really critical for us to be able to do the kind of work we do."

While Froese says while they have a good slate of participants, they still have a few openings. She notes slots Friday at 7:30 and Sunday at 4:00 are still open, so you can come down and support a great cause while participating in a fun event. Sunday will also feature two guests, as members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers bowl alongside participants.
