Portage may soon be rating firms on previous experience with the city during the tendering process.

City council will review a proposal to revise the tendering policy and include a rating of experience in tender evaluations, accounting for up to ten per cent of the total criteria.

Councilor Dave Quinn points out a similar rating is already being used by other cities, and on occasion, has been used for some firms locally, although the rating isn't specified in the current tendering policy.  Quinn adds the rating should provide better value for the city's dollars.

But councilor Orville Wagner doesn't like the idea.  He feels such a rating may contradict the tendering process, which generally aims to find the lowest competitive price possible.
