The provincial throne speech contains new targets for immigration, as well as corporate and personal income tax cuts.

The Lieutenant-Governor read the speech this afternoon as the legislature opened a new session.

Portage MLA David Faurschou isn't impressed, and says it's a pre-election document. He says that's evident by harking back to previous administrations and mentioning old initiatives, many of which haven't been acted on.

Faurschou adds the speech was a re-hash of old announcements, and is concerned Portage wasn't mentioned, even though the Pas, Winnipeg, and Brandon were. He believes it's because the NDP aren't targeting the riding for the next election.

Faurschou's also worried the ag sector didn't receive a lot of attention, with issues relegated to other parts of the throne speech.
