The Portage Collegiate Trojans are now 2-0 in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League. They were victorious tonight 3-2 over the Morden Thunder in overtime.

After a scoreless first period, PCI opened the scoring early in the second. Hayden Mattice took the puck behind the net, absorbed a hit but stayed with the puck, passed it out in front for Dylan Lee who made no mistake. 1-0 Trojans.

The scoring wouldn't continue until halfway through the third period as the Thunder tied the game up on the power-play. Just over a minute later, Morden had a 2-on-1 chance and Noah Klassen put it home on a one-timer. 2-1 Thunder.

Not even two minutes later, Kyle Van Deynze brought the puck into the zone. He then made a defender miss and dropped the puck off for Carter Parynuik who sniped it short side tying the game up.

60 minutes was not enough for these two teams to settle it so they went to overtime.

In the extra frame, Carson Dubois scored his first goal as a Trojan, leading to a PCI win.

Head coach Eric Eronen describes the keys to victory.

"We played a lot better in our own end than we did last night (against Carman)," says Eronen. "One of the things we talked about was being more aggressive in the defensive zone as opposed to sitting back and waiting. So, we did a good job of that. We didn't give up much quality (scoring chances) today, got pucks in, and we're fore-checking pretty hard. I was happy with that."

Eronen adds that four of his players came straight from a football game to this hockey game (Kyle Van Deynze, Carter Parynuik, Noah Taylor, and Kurt Parker).

Despite the two wins, he adds they still have a lot to work on.

"We're still trying to find our identity right now," says Eronen. "We're getting stuck flat-footed, we're not quite crisp, something's a little off. I mean, we're 2-0 to start so I can't be too mad about it. In the end, I would like to see a better performance from us. We're playing 15 good minutes and getting wins but hopefully, we can put a full 60 together because if we do, we'll be a force to be reckoned with."

PCI's next outing will take place on Monday in Altona.
