On Monday, the Portage Collegiate Trojans collected two wins in a doubleheader against the Sanford Sabres.

The Trojans Squad easily took the first game 5-0 of the doubleheader and looked to be handling their duties in the same manner in the second game, until the final inning, when a comfortable 9-5 lead turned into a 9-7 nail biter with the bases loaded. However, to the home crowd's pleasure, Portage held off Sanford Collegiate to secure their second victory on the day by a final of 9-7.

Team Manager Cam Asham spoke highly of his team's performances when all was said and done.

"I think we came out, and we were pretty solid for the first time being outside. We played a couple of pretty clean games defensively and had a lot of good at-bats and held on there in the last inning of the second game."

Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Asham says that his team will keep building on what they started Monday at Rotary Republic Park.

"Like I said, we were pretty solid, and that's what we talked about a little bit in our postgame meeting, is that it was a solid start in all aspects of the game for our first time outside."

Due to unfortunate weather, this was the only time the Trojans are scheduled to play on their home field this season, but Coach Asham notes that his boys are happy to be playing some baseball.
