A family-owned business based out of Winnipeg has teamed up with a local boutique to pay tribute to their mom.

Fancy Infusions, alongside Mil Jeanne Flowers & Axcenz, are teaming up to serve Trudy's Pepper Jelly, something owner Hayley Williams wanted to do to keep the memory of her mother, Trudy Karlson's legacy alive. Williams explains she brought home a pepper jelly recipe many years ago, and the two spent years perfecting it.

"In 2019, my mom suddenly passed away in her sleep. We launched Fancy Infusions last summer," says Williams. "Trudy's Pepper Jelly was an idea that my sisters and I had to recreate a taste from heaven. Because my mom's pepper jelly always tasted like heaven, and everybody loved it."

The jelly launched this past Wednesday, and for a limited time, those who ordered the jelly received a sugar cookie and a love note. Also, during the launch day, 10 per cent of Mil-Jeanne's profits were donated to Central Plains Cancer Care.

Williams says her mom was a caring, loving person.

"She worked at Portage Mutual Insurance for 34 years, and she always said that Portage was for people," says Williams. "My mom spent her life here in Portage, and she was very much involved with the Cancer Care fashion shows and stuff to do with cancer because she was a cancer survivor. She was very much involved with Pride, and she loved when Pride launched in the community."

Williams adds it felt great to pull off a tribute in total adoration of their mom and see the community come together and support them. She hopes her legacy will last.

"We don't want people to forget about my mom, my mom was very well known in Portage," says Williams. "My mom has lots of friends here, and they all shop at Mil-Jeanne, so seeing her name there and seeing her signature on Trudy's Pepper Jelly jar makes everybody feel a good vibe."
