A fund is being set up in Portage la Prairie to help Ukrainian refugees settle in our community in a far easier manner. 

Blair Hordeski is one of the organizers of the Ukraine to Portage Fund and says it's been set up with Stride Credit Union. 

"It's a means to collect monetary donations to assist in the transitioning of displaced Ukrainians to Portage la Prairie," explains Hordeski. "We know that many of the beautiful Ukrainians that have arrived in our community thus far do have a connection to the community, but that doesn't mean that they may not require some assistance. We know that some communities, similar in size to ours, have set up funds to accept donations that have put them in a position where they can actively look to bring two or three or more families to their communities. It would just be something else to find ourselves in a similar position."

He notes great work has been done so far in Portage for support efforts.

"I invite anybody who has an interest to please join us on our Help Ukraine Portage Prairie Facebook page where we really do our best to celebrate all the great things that people in our community are doing as well," continues Hordeski. "I think it's important that folks know that should they wish to support efforts to directly in our community to support Ukrainians, they're very welcome to make a donation to the Ukraine to Portage Fund."
