They're creating quite the buzz, the wasp population is up in our province.  Although there isn't as many mosquitoes this summer the wasp population has seen an increase.  Lincoln Poulin is the General Manager of Poulin's Pest Control in Winnipeg, he says they have had a number of calls about wasps from across Manitoba, including Portage la Prairie.   Poulin notes wasps are able to nest almost anywhere including cracks in the wall, in your yard, over-hanging windows and trees.
He adds it's never a good idea to knock down a nest as the wasps will become aggressive and will likely end up rebuilding the nest in the ground.  If you're outside Poulin recommends a trap with something sweet like cream soda or rotting fruit.
