Sandy Bay man gives RCMP fake name during traffic stop
A man from Sandy Bay First Nation attempted to deceive an officer with a phony name last week. On April 19, at around 2:00 p.m., Amaranth RCMP conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Highway 50 in Amaranth. The 25-year-old man from Sandy Bay First Nation provided the officer with a false name when asked. The official was able to determine his correct name, and learned he was prohibited from driving a motor vehicle. The driver was placed under arrest and faces charges of Operation of a Vehicle While Prohibited and Obstructing a Police Officer. He was also issued two tickets under the Highway Traffic Act totalling $970.00 and the vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded. He also had an outstanding Arrest Warrant for Failing to Comply with a Conditional Sentence Order. The driver was held and appeared in court on April 22.
