heroes of hopeFrom Left to Right: Sherlyn Knox, Cody Buhler, Adele McMurray, Jim McDonald, Jocelyn Meroniuk Vezey, Will Pacholuk

Cancer. It's a terrible thing to have to deal with. And almost every single person reading this has been affected by it in some way. Whether they have batted it themselves, are battling it right now, or a friend or family member has, it is everywhere. And we all hope someday it is a thing of the past.

Until that day comes though, we need to count on people's support when it comes to the battle. Positivity can be key at such a tough time in people's lives. And that's why we want to recognize some of the Heroes of Hope in the area. People helping people in their battle with cancer. Maybe it is someone who is always helping with fundraising. Maybe it's someone who helped you personally, by visiting, giving a ride or simply being there for moral support. Please tell us about these great people. Nominate someone now and during the week of April 13th we will recognize these folks on the air AND with some special prizes from Schapansky's Florist and Rentals, Cafe on Prince and Central Plains Cancer Services.

Send us the Heroes name, contact information and a short comment about why they are a Hero of Hope so we can recognize these great people.

Hero #1 - Monday April 10th

Jim McDonald - He was there for my uncle from the moment that he found out that he had cancer till the time he passed away. He would take him to his appointments, take him out just for a drive, just be there for someone to talk to. This was very hard for my him cause my uncle was the baby in the family and passed away just last month. My dad does alot and is always there when you need him. He doesn't ask for anything in return and is always giving his time to his family and the community.

 Hero #2 - Tuesday April 11th

Jean Carriere - Jean was more than just my cancer care driver, she was compassionate, listener, and at the end of radiation, celebrated with lunch and shopping. "Treat yourself, you deserve it" she said. Thanks Jean for being there for me.

Hero #3 - Wednesday April 12th

Adele McMurray - My hero of hope that I would like to nominate is Adele McMurray. She is one of the most compassionate people I have met. During my mother’s battle with cancer Adele became our family’s angel. She not only volunteered to help with mom’s care while she was at home, Adele always took the time to visit with all of us. She would finish her shift at the hospital and come to my mom’s house to help her bather, assist to turn her or do whatever else needed to be done. Adele would ask mom for cooking hints and made her feel valuable during her short time left with us. Adele would arrive with coffee in hand for us and always with her beautiful smile. After mom passed away Adele continued to be our angel with her caring ways. Every person and family that is battling cancer needs an Adele. (Nominated by Paulette Connery)

Hero #4 - Thursday April 13th

Jocelyn Meroniuk Vezey When I, Helen, had my cancer surgery and was recovering at home.  Jocelyn brought me over a large pot of potatoe soup.  It meant a lot and fed me for days.  She's a kind person and makes delicious meals.  I really appreciated it. (Nominated by Helen Urbanovitch)
