News from the Herman Prior Centre

Herman Prior Centre is a 55+ Centre, and we invite and encourage younger people and non-members to participate in our activities. Membership is $25, and members enjoy reduced prices for special events. Members and non-members pay $1 and $2 respectively for each activity in which they participate at the Prior Centre.

Our doors are open from 8:30 - 4:30, Monday to Friday. Please drop in and see what we're all about! Ask for a list of programs and activities that are available. For information on any event or activity, you can contact Hope Faschoway, Executive Director, at (204) 857-6951 or [email protected].

Important Dates to Remember:

Monday, August 7th - HPC is CLOSED in for the Terry Fox (Civic) holiday

Congregate Noon Meal – 12:00 each weekday

The Herman Prior Centre offers a full cooked meal at 12:00 noon every weekday. Meals are complete with beverage and dessert, all for $8.00. Take out meals are also available for $9.00 each. Everyone – of all ages – are welcome to attend, just remember to call 857-6951 before 11:00 to reserve your meal. The monthly Menu is printed at the back of the HPC Newsletter, or you can call the Centre at 857-6951 to see what’s cooking!

Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre – Anyone interested in season tickets for 2017-2018 season (October/17 – April/18) – please contact Hope at 857-6951.

Fundraiser BBQ & Pie Sale – Friday, July 14th

Friday, July 14th from 10 am to 1 pm at the Herman Prior Centre!!

There will be a 50/50 draw, silent auction, program & activity information etc..– Hotdogs - Hamburgers - Kebobs - Taco in a Bag – Sides – Dessert and a variety of Pies, Pies and Pies!!!!

Folklorama – Hungary-Pannonia, Ukraine Kyiv and Japanese Pavilions – Wednesday, August 16th

Cost is $120 for members and $130 for non members. The bus leaves at 4:30 pm. Ticket includes: Bus fare and VIP admission to pavilions with progressive meal, Appetizer (1st pavilion), meal (2nd pavilion) and dessert (3rd pavilion). Bus drops everyone off at the door and guest bypass the line straight to their seats. Great opportunity to explore different cultures without leaving the comfort of Winnipeg.

Deadline to register for this trip is Friday, July 21st.

Rainbow Stage – “Mamma Mia” – Wednesday, August 30th

Cost is $85 for members and $95 for non-members. The bus leaves Herman Prior Centre at 6 p.m. and returns at 11:45 p.m. Mamma Mia – A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget. Writer, Catherine Johnson’s sunny and funny tale with the story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs propel this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, creating an unforgettable show.

Deadline to register for this trip is Monday, July 17th.

Prairie Dog Central – Fall Supper – Saturday, September 9th

Cost is $65 members and $75 non-members. The bus leaves Herman Prior Centre at 3 pm. Ticket includes: bus fare, train ticket and supper. The Railway Fall Supper has been a firm favorite on the Prairie Dog Central’s calendar for over 35 years. Let the majestic steam locomotive No. 3 lead the way to a sumptuous, made-from-scratch Fall Supper, consisting of roast turkey, meat balls, mashed potato, vegetables, dressing, salad, fresh rolls and dessert. The supper will be held at the Grosse Isle Community Hall which consists of a short 2 - 5 minute walk.

Deadline to register is Monday, July 24th.

Cold Hard Cash Fundraiser – Saturday, September 23rd

Cost is $40.00 per person and includes BBQ Chicken and Rib supper and entertainment.

Celebrations Dinner Theatre – “Bewitching Elvis” – Tuesday, November 7th

Cost is $80 members and $90 non-members. The bus leaves at 9:30 am returns about 3:30 pm. Ticket includes: bus fare, show, dinner and gratuity. Show information: Samantha and her husband Darren are trying to live a normal married life, but Samantha’s with mother, Endora, doesn’t make it easy for them. Samantha is trying to organize a surprise party for her friend without using magic. She hires an Elvis impersonator, however her mother doesn’t think he is a fit impersonator and quickly changes him into the real Elvis before she agrees to leave the party.

Deadline to register is Friday, October 13th.

REGULAR ACTIVITIES AT THE PRIOR CENTRE

Noon Meal Program - The Herman Prior Centre offers a full cooked meal at noon each weekday for $8.00, takeout orders for $9.00. The meal includes coffee & dessert, and all ages are welcome. Call before 11:00 a.m. to reserve your meal. Monthly menu charts are available at the Prior Centre or call (204) 857-6951.

Herman Prior Centre Gift Shop is now closed. Thank you to everyone who worked in the Gift Shop over the years. In the coming months, we will be moving the Book Nook into the gift shop space.

**

Prior Centre Book Nook - open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday. Books are $1 - $2, jigsaw puzzles are $1 - $10. Donations of books are always appreciated.

**

Scrabble - Join us for a game of Scrabble played every Monday at 10 a.m. - New players are always welcome.

**

HPC Medical Equipment Rental Service - We have wheelchairs, walkers, and other medical equipment available to rent. Call (204) 857-6951 for information.

Podiatrist Dr. Bellmont comes from Brandon to client appointments on Tuesday, August 29th at the Prior Centre. Call 1-877-909-3338 to book an appointment.

Beltone Hearing will be coming to the Prior Centre on Monday, August 14th and Monday, August 28th. Call the Prior Centre at (204) 857-6951 to book an appointment.

Foot Care Nurse, Sylvia Gauthier is at the Prior Centre every Thursday and Friday. Call Sylvia at 204-857-9035 to book your appointment.
